What is Deep Dive?
Deep Dive is an expansive cross-disciplinary Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Curriculum, designed to comprehensively cover requisite knowledge for physicians and other providers who intend to practice Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine. This is a 2-year curriculum comprised of blended learning for physicians and other providers. The monthly core topics are clinically focused and align with the North American Board of Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine’s (NABBLM) blueprint for board certification examination.
When Does Deep Dive Start?
The Deep Dive begins with attending our 1-week Core Content of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine course on March 12-16th, 2024. This was previously known as the IABLE 5-day Comprehensive Breastfeeding Medicine Course. The monthly Deep Dive topics will begin in April 2024. People who have completed the 5-day Comprehensive Breastfeeding Medicine Course in 2021-2023 do not need to take the Core Content course. IF the 5-day course was purchased but not completed (as evidenced by a certificate of completion), the Core Content of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine course will be required before starting Deep Dive.
There will be an orientation for all Deep Dive participants on Wed, April 3rd, 2024 from 5pm-8 pm CST.
How is Deep Dive Structured?
Each month will focus on one or more topics (see below) that align with the North American Board of Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine’s (NABBLM) blueprint for board certification examination. Each participant should anticipate approximately 6 hours of learning each month, through a combination of small group work, independent learning activities, and large group discussion. The large group discussions will be 90 minutes the 4th Sunday evening of each month, 6:30-8 pm Central time, other than when there are holidays. Although live attendance will be strongly encouraged, the sessions will be recorded. The following is the list of dates for the group discussions:
2024 – 4/28, 5/19, 6/30, 7/28, 8/25, 9/29, 10/27, 12/1
2025 – 1/26, 2/23, 3/30, 4/27, 5/18, 6/29, 7/27, 8/24, 9/28, 10/26,12/7
2026 – 1/25, 2/22, 3/29
Will The Curriculum Allow Me to Sit for The North American Board Of Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine (NABBLM) Board Exam?
NABBLM has not established their criteria for exam candidates who do not qualify for Grandparenting-in. IABLE will adjust the curriculum as needed, to ensure that Deep Dive qualifies.
Who is Eligible to Register for the Deep Dive?
The Deep Dive curriculum is appropriate for physicians and other providers (physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and midwives) who practice at a diagnostic and treatment level. Enrollment is open to anybody in the world.
Accreditation
CME: The AAFP has reviewed Deep Dive and deemed it acceptable for Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Prescribed credits. Each month will be approximately 6 CMEs and will be awarded separately. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
IBCLC: This course has been allocated 6 L or E CERPs each month recognized by IBLCE. Long Term Provider #117-04.
What About Clinical Mentoring?
Participants of Deep Dive will be encouraged to simultaneously work with a mentor who is a board-certified (or Board-eligible) Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine specialist, to gain clinical experience and fulfill the NABBLM mentoring requirements for board certification. NABBLM has not yet established their criteria for clinical mentoring.
