Overview of the Case Series

The Institute for the Advancement of Breastfeeding and Lactation Education’s ‘Clinical Case Discussions in Breastfeeding Medicine’ is a monthly webinar series of 1.25-hour case presentations. The goal of this series is to enhance the clinical practice of breastfeeding medicine by bringing together physicians and other providers from around the world, in order to share experiences, evidence, and innovative ideas in clinical practice. This series is perfect for physicians and other providers who have been practicing breastfeeding medicine for several years, or for those who are exploring the field or just getting started.

Webinar Objectives

  • List at least five differential diagnoses for vomiting in a mixed-fed infant
  • Describe a step-wise approach to evaluating a mixed-fed infant presenting with vomiting

About the Instructor

Janet Wasylyshen-Velasco, MD, MPH, IBCLC, FAAP, is a hospitalist who is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She is also an IBCLC and is currently finishing the LILAC fellowship in Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine. Dr. Velasco serves on multiple committees and working groups focused on reduction in infant mortality, and provides student, resident, and fellow breastfeeding education in addition to patient care in Dayton, Ohio. She enjoys any opportunity to help a system change for the better.

Recording/Evaluation

The recording of the webinar AND the evaluation will be available for 1 month to those who have registered. Attendees can earn credits through any combination of live participation and/or viewing the recording.

Within 3 days after the event, the recording and evaluation will be available at the orange “View My Courses” button in your IABLE’s My Account page. To receive your credits, you must attest to attending live or watching the recording, in addition to completing the quiz and evaluation.

These must be completed within 1 month, before they expire.

Accreditation

CMEs: Credits have been applied for.

CERPs: According to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Individual CERPs Guide for Recertification, Section IIIA, education that has been awarded educational credit by another board or organization may be counted as CERPs. All IABLE courses both live and enduring are awarded continuing education credits (CMEs) from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each CME credit can be counted as one CERP.  There is no limit to the number of CMEs that can be counted as CERPs.

CEUs: According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ meet the requirement of formally approved continuing education hours and may be used as such for ANCC Certification renewal. https://www.nursingworld.org/certification/faqs/
