Exclusive Pumping: The Basics Webinar

This 2-hour webinar course aims to teach individuals basic pump counseling skills. Learners will gain the knowledge to teach typical pump usage and care, and to problem-solve basic pump problems. In addition, the course will cover proper milk storage, prenatal colostrum expression, hand expression and milk collection devices.

Goals for Exclusive Pumping – The Basics:

• Identify basic principles of operating commonly used pumps
• Describe categories of pumps
• Describe milk collectors and discuss appropriate use
• Describe optimal pump vacuum and cycle frequencies
• Explain how to clean a breast pump
• Discuss how to counsel a client on pump options
• Explain milk storage guidelines
• Outline a strategy to help a client who reports pump failure
• Describe a strategy to fit flange size
• Describe reasons for antenatal colostrum expression
• Define reverse pressure softening and describe when to use this technique
• Discuss power pumping and hands-on pumping
• Explain how to do hand expression and when this is appropriate
• Outline a pumping plan with a client

Recording/Evaluation

The recording of the webinar AND the evaluation will be available for 2 months to those who have registered. Attendees can earn credits through any combination of live participation and/or viewing the recording.

Within 3 days after the event, the recording and evaluation will be available at the blue “View My Courses” button in your IABLE’s My Account page. To receive your credits, you must attest to attending live or watching the recording, in addition to completing the quiz and evaluation.

These must be completed within 2 months, before they expire.

Please note that for a number of reasons, it is our policy not to permit registration for our events, nor access to the recordings, after the event has occurred. These include policies of our accreditors and speakers, technical issues, and fairness to everyone who has registered.

Accreditation

CMEs: The AAFP has reviewed Exclusive Pumping – The Basics and deemed it acceptable for up to 2.0 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Prescribed credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CERPS: According to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Individual CERPs Guide for Recertification, Section IIIA, education that has been awarded educational credit by another board or organization may be counted as CERPs. All IABLE courses both live and enduring are awarded continuing education credits (CMEs) from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each CME credit can be counted as one CERP.  There is no limit to the number of CMEs that can be counted as CERPs.

Nursing Credits: According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ meet the requirement of formally approved continuing education hours and may be used as such for ANCC Certification renewal. https://www.nursingworld.org/certification/faqs/
