Overview of this Series

This monthly webinar series explores the diverse pathways within Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine and provides practical insights into building a career in this evolving field. Experienced colleagues will share how they have incorporated breastfeeding and lactation medicine into their clinical practice, while also balancing other professional responsibilities and pursuits including research, curricula development, medical education, advocacy, and leadership.

• Describe approaches to integrating clinical research with patient care throughout a physician career
• Identify educational pathways, training opportunities, and resources that support a career in clinical research

About the Instructor

Dr. Hoyt-Austin (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at UC Davis Health. She practices pediatrics and breastfeeding/lactation medicine and is health services researcher. She obtained her undergraduate degree at UC San Diego in La Jolla, CA, medical degree at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO; pediatric residency and chief residency at L.J. Murphy INOVA Children’s Hospital in Fairfax, VA; and Academic Pediatric fellowship through the Quality, Safety and Comparative Effectiveness Training program in Primary Care (QSCERT-PC) at UC Davis. She is a scholar in the UC Davis K12 Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program and has career interests in improving how to best support postpartum patients after birth hospitalization discharge.

Dr. Hoyt-Austin works clinically as a general pediatrician at Glassrock Pediatrics, Sacramento County Health Center and the UC Davis Well Newborn Care Unit, and she has a specialty breastfeeding clinic at Glassrock Pediatrics. Dr. Hoyt-Austin has presented nationally and internationally on her clinical, research, and academic work in breastfeeding and human milk science. She serves as the Communications Chair for the Better Outcomes through Research for Newborns research network through the Academic Pediatric Association and is the Chair of the Protocol Committee for the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.

Recording/Evaluation

The recording of the webinar AND the evaluation will be available for 1 month to those who have registered. Attendees can earn credits through any combination of live participation and/or viewing the recording.

Within 3 days after the event, the recording and evaluation will be available at the blue “View My Courses” button in your IABLE’s My Account page. To receive your credits, you must attest to attending live or watching the recording, in addition to completing the quiz and evaluation.

These must be completed within 1 month, before they expire.

Please note that for a number of reasons, it is our policy not to permit registration for our events, nor access to the recordings, after the event has occurred. These include policies of our accreditors and speakers, technical issues, and fairness to everyone who has registered.

Accreditation

CMEs: The AAFP has reviewed The Many Facets of Breastfeeding Medicine, and deemed it acceptable for 1.0 AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 12/11/2026 to 12/10/2027. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CERPs: According to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Individual CERPs Guide for Recertification, Section IIIA, education that has been awarded educational credit by another board or organization may be counted as CERPs. All IABLE courses both live and enduring are awarded continuing education credits (CMEs) from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each CME credit can be counted as one CERP.  There is no limit to the number of CMEs that can be counted as CERPs.

CEUs: According to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ meet the requirement of formally approved continuing education hours and may be used as such for ANCC Certification renewal. https://www.nursingworld.org/certification/faqs/

Cancellation Policy
