Overview of the Building a Practice Series
This series, scheduled for 1.0 hours on the third Friday of each month, is designed for physicians who currently practice breastfeeding medicine, or are new to the field and are interested in learning the ins and outs of establishing and maintaining a breastfeeding and lactation medicine (BFLM) practice.
This series is an opportunity to teach each other how we incorporate the specialized field of BFLM into a variety of practice models such as academic settings, private practice, and direct primary care. Each session will be awarded 1.0 CMEs. CMEs can also be used for nursing and lactation re-certifications. No experience is necessary to participate; we welcome all learners!
Our hosts, Lena Edelstein MD, NABBLM-C, IBCLC, and Anne Eglash MD, NABBLM-C, IBCLC, FABM, will lead a discussion with guests on a variety of breastfeeding and lactation medicine practice topics ranging from establishing a practice, tools of the trade, billing, teaching, etc.
Webinar Objectives
• Describe the scope of breastfeeding and lactation medicine offered by a breast surgeon
• Outline how breast surgeons practicing breastfeeding and lactation medicine fit into the larger community
About the Instructor
Dr. Rachel Yang is a board-certified general surgeon, fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, international board-certified lactation consultant, and certified lactation counselor. She has a unique practice that encompasses the treatment of all breast pathologies-from cancer to benign disease to lactation.

She supports lactating parents with high or low milk productions, history of breast surgery, mastitis or recurrent clogs, breast fluid abscess or galactocele, nipple wounds, breast pain, desire to induce lactation, and many other challenges. Her breastfeeding medicine services offered in clinic include diagnostic ultrasound, therapeutic ultrasound, and extensive procedural capabilities. Her current research endeavors focus on management of granulomatous mastitis and lactational abscess.
Dr. Yang serves as a resource to many local and regional lactation consultants and medical providers who care for lactating patients.
