Overview
This course focuses on the development and implementation of an inpatient postpartum osteopathic manipulative medicine consult service. This series is designed for physicians who currently practice breastfeeding medicine, or are new to the field and are interested in learning the ins and outs of establishing and maintaining a breastfeeding and lactation medicine (BFLM) practice.
Objectives
- 1. Explain how Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine can assist physicians who provide peripartum care
- 2. Explain infant exam symptoms and signs that may indicate musculoskeletal problems affecting feeding
Accreditation
CMEs: The AAFP has reviewed “Lending a Hand – Developing a Postpartum Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Consult Service” and deemed it acceptable for up to 1.0 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Prescribed credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
CERPS: According to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Individual CERPs Guide for Recertification, Section IIIA, education that has been awarded educational credit by another board or organization may be counted as CERPs. All IABLE courses both live and enduring are awarded continuing education credits (CMEs) from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each CME credit can be counted as one CERP. There is no limit to the number of CMEs that can be counted as CERPs.
Nursing Credits: All state boards for nursing licensure approve of educational offerings that are approved by the American Nursing Credentialling Center (ANCC). Speaker Biography:
Sammi Tyler DO currently lives in Madison, WI where she practices as both a newborn hospitalist and providing osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) to pediatric patients in clinic. She also recently helped create an OMM consult service in the postpartum unit. She completed pediatrics residency at the University of Wisconsin and completed both medical school training and an undergraduate teaching fellowship in OMM at Des Moines University in Iowa. Sammi is passionate about helping infants breastfeed more successfully utilizing OMM and teaching the next generation of providers to do the same.
