Partner Support, Supporting Breastfeeding During Parent or Child Hospitalization, & Colostrum Volumes in the First 48 Hours

January 16, 2022

We review several topics including how lactating women feel about partner support and what sort of help is most valued. We then turn to the topic of supporting lactation for the hospitalized parent or child, based on a new 2021 Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Protocol. We finish with a study from Japan on colostrum volumes.

What are the best ways for partners to support lactation? Join us for a conversation based on a study of qualitative interviews of lactating women who share their perspectives on partner support. There are several issues to consider when designing a hospital policy to support lactation during hospitalization for the parent or child. We will review some of those salient points as we review the 2021 Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Protocol on this topic. Take a guess- how much colostrum can women express at 20 hours postpartum? What about 36 hours postpartum? Join us to find out!
