Accreditation

Speaker Biography

Janean Wedeking DO, IBCLC is a full scope family medicine physician. Born and raised in Iowa, she completed her undergraduate degree at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa and her family medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. After serving 4 years in the USAF, she now practices full scope family medicine in rural Iowa with a special interest in maternal/infant care and breastfeeding medicine. She enjoys a sustainable living, staying active, and spending time with family, her husband, and 3 vivacious breastfed children.


Vanessa Shanks MD, FAAP, CLC
is a neonatologist who completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in Columbus, Ohio before moving back to the east coast for Neonatology fellowship at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She is the Medical Director for Neonatal Lactation Services at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a certified lactation counselor. Her special interest is in providing parental support throughout all phases of lactation.

 

Anne Eglash MD, NABBLM-C, IBCLC, FABM, is a clinical professor with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.  In addition to family medicine, she has been practicing breastfeeding and lactation medicine since 1994.

Dr. Eglash is a cofounder of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, the Medical Director and cofounder of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, and the Medical Director of the University of Wisconsin Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Clinic. She has published many peer- reviewed articles on breastfeeding medicine and is a past associate editor for Breastfeeding Medicine Journal.

Dr. Eglash is founder and president of The Institute for the Advancement of Breastfeeding and Lactation Education (IABLE), as well as a cofounder, inaugural president, and immediate past-president of the North American Board of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine.


Karen Bodnar MD, IBCLC, FAAP, FABM
received her BS in Physics from MIT and served as an officer in the US Air Force. She then completed medical school and pediatric residency at the University of Florida. At UF, she also studied to become an Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). After completing her training, she spent 5 years in California where she worked in private practice and as an assistant clinical professor of general pediatrics at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. In 2015, she relocated to Virginia and became a pediatric hospitalist, assistant clinical professor at Inova Children’s Hospital, and medical director of the Inova Breastfeeding Medicine Clinic. She is a fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM), a past board member of IABLE, and is a current board member of ABM. She is a cohost of the Breastfeeding Medicine Podcast series.
