Overview

This course focuses on the practice of breastfeeding medicine in an independent practice within an insurance model with Dr. Stephanie Dunn, MD, IBCLC. This series is designed for physicians who currently practice breastfeeding medicine, or are new to the field and are interested in learning the ins and outs of establishing and maintaining a breastfeeding and lactation medicine (BFLM) practice.

Objectives

  1. Outline the typical costs and underlying expenses of running an independent practice
  2. Describe strategies and considerations in securing insurance contracts

Accreditation

CMEs: The AAFP has reviewed “An Independent Breastfeeding Medicine Practice within an Insurance Model” and deemed it acceptable for up to 1.0 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Prescribed credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CERPS: According to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Individual CERPs Guide for Recertification, Section IIIA, education that has been awarded educational credit by another board or organization may be counted as CERPs. All IABLE courses both live and enduring are awarded continuing education credits (CMEs) from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each CME credit can be counted as one CERP.  There is no limit to the number of CMEs that can be counted as CERPs.

Nursing Credits: All state boards for nursing licensure approve of educational offerings that are approved by the American Nursing Credentialling Center (ANCC). According to ANCC Certification, the continuing education hours approved by the AAFP and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ meet the requirement of formally approved continuing education hours and may be used as such for ANCC Certification renewal. https://www.nursingworld.org/certification/faqs/

 

Speaker Biography:

Stephanie Dunn is a pediatrician and IBCLC. She grew up in the woods of New England, loving sports, science and chocolate milk. After college at Georgetown, Stephanie worked in the clinical trials office at Memorial Sloan Kettering, attended New York Medical College and completed her pediatrics residency at Columbia’s New York Presbyterian. In 2010, Stephanie moved to Denver, Colorado to start a career and a family. Woven Pediatrics, Stephanie’s breastfeeding and lactation medicine practice, came to be in 2023. She is happy to tell you about her practice that accepts insurance, and her continued love of sports, science and chocolate milk.
